Vari Laptop Side Table 401744 review

Vari Laptop Side Table 401744 is a black, steel C-shaped side table designed to sit beside a chair or sofa while a person is seated. Vari's U.S. product page identifies item 401744 and describes a laptop or beverage surface for sitting; the item-specific sheet gives a 19 × 11-inch top and 25-inch height. It supports a laptop body directly, but it is not a laptop riser, lap platform or portable stand. That distinction is central to deciding whether this furniture accessory belongs in a workstation at all.

A chair-side surface, not a desk riser

The manufacturer's page categorizes the item with soft seating and shows it beside a sectional sofa. Its C-shaped frame is intended to place the tabletop alongside seated furniture, rather than to elevate a laptop on a desk. The table's single 25-inch height is a furniture dimension, not an adjustable screen-rise range. The page and item-specific sheet describe no lift mechanism, tilt hinge, swivel platform or folding travel mode. A fixed surface can be useful for a couch-side session, but it does not solve the same fit problem as an adjustable open-laptop riser.

Measure the distance from the chair or sofa to the side table, the space beneath the seat where the C-frame must travel, and the height of the tabletop relative to the seated user's arms and laptop screen. The 19-inch width and 11-inch depth are a more useful first check than a generic “laptop table” label. Vari's guide image shows the table in a seating area, but a product photo cannot confirm that the frame will clear a particular couch, baseboard, rug or armchair leg.

Table capacity is not a laptop compatibility chart

Vari's product page states a table weight capacity of up to 300 pounds. That is a furniture load rating, not evidence that a laptop of every shape will sit securely or that the table is a stability-tested ergonomic stand. The exact item sheet supplies the 19 × 11-inch surface but does not identify compatible laptop models or give a base-width, foot-placement or vent-clearance list. Compare the computer's actual bottom panel, rubber feet and case with the tabletop; keep vents clear and confirm that cables reach without pulling the laptop toward the edge.

The image used for this assessment is the exact black table shown under item 401744 in Vari's April 2026 product catalog. The live page's gallery also contains media whose file path uses a different product-family code, so this review does not use that path as a formal crosswalk. The exact 401744 specification sheet and product page are the source for its size, material, assembly and load details.

Furniture-scale limitations matter

The product page says the table ships fully assembled, and the sheet depicts a fixed steel C-frame. That avoids a separate setup routine, but it also means this is a furniture piece to place in a room rather than a stand to slide into a backpack. The reviewed materials do not describe a fold-flat configuration or a travel envelope. They do not document lap support either: the laptop sits on the separate tabletop while the user remains seated, rather than the support resting on the user's legs.

For a desk-based setup, compare this shape with a model made for a tabletop. The VariDesk Laptop Stand 403285 is a separate fold-flat adjustable support, while the earlier Portable Laptop Stand 49942 folds to a fixed 12-inch position. Neither should be confused with the 401744 side table: they have different surfaces, uses, mechanisms and model numbers. A side table can hold a laptop beside seating, but no exact manufacturer document says that it replaces a desk riser or adjusts to a preferred screen height.

Availability and buying checks

On October 31, 2026, Vari's exact 401744 product page showed an out-of-stock state and an estimated future date. That is a dated page observation, not a promise that the estimate will hold or a statement about any other seller. The model remains in the current-reference library because the exact manufacturer page, 401744 product sheet and 2026 catalog document it; the library label is not a stock claim.

Before considering an offer, verify that it names item 401744 in black and includes the fully assembled table rather than a different Vari side table or a sofa component. Check the current seller, condition, package, delivery, return terms and any change to the product dimensions. Measure the 19 × 11-inch top and 25-inch height against both the room and the laptop base. The 300-pound figure does not remove the need to confirm the device's contact points and vents. No price or seller availability is inferred here, and this source-led assessment does not claim ownership, testing or a personal fit trial.
